No. 5 Nebraska Rifle Falls in Top-10 Battle with Georgia Southern

The No. 5 Nebraska rifle team finished Sunday’s showdown with a loss to No. 9 Georgia Southern. The loss moved NU’s season record to 3-5. 

Husker shooters Katlyn Sullivan and Alivia Perkins both led the team with a score of 1,184. Sullivan finished first, and Perkins finished third. The tiebreaker was determined by the number of inner tens shot by each athlete.

“We battled hard today and saw some great things transfer over from practice that we’ve been working on the last couple of weeks,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “It was great to see Katlyn and Alivia have great performances in both guns, helping lead the way today. As a group, we will get back to the range on Tuesday and continue to work on rising to the occasion in preparation for next weekend’s match.”

In the smallbore, Perkins shot a 588, earning second place. Close behind, Sullivan shot a 587, finishing third. Carley Seabrooke (seventh, 583), Hannah Gallagher (ninth, 581), Maddy Moyer (10th, 578) and Charlie Mick (12th, 577) finished the Huskers' smallbore lineup. 

Sullivan placed second in the air rifle, shooting a 597. Sequentially, in third place, Perkins finished with a score of 596. Mick (11th, 588), Gallagher (12th, 588), Seabrooke (13th, 587), and Moyer (15th, 582) rounded out the Big Red lineup, shooting a score of 2,368 as a team. 

Nebraska will head to its first tournament of the season, where they will compete in the WVU Fall Classic on Nov. 14-15. The matches will start at 7 a.m. (CT) both days.
