Babineaux Shares Title at The Bruzzy

Kaleigh Babineaux posted the best tournament score of her college career on her way to a share of the individual title while leading the Nebraska women's golf team to a tie for fourth at The Bruzzy presented by Ashley Herrera in Trophy Club, Texas, Wednesday.

Babineaux, a sophomore from Austin, Texas, closed out a career-best 206 (-10) with a final-round 70 (-2) on the 6,337-yard layout of The Trophy Club CC on Wednesday. It followed a career-best-tying second-round 67 (-5) and an opening-round 69 (-3) Tuesday.

Babineaux matched Oklahoma's Meg Tilma, UTSA's Victoria Schuldt, Xavier's Isabel Brozena  and Sofia Vargas from Illinois in a five-way tie for medalist honors.

Babineaux's tournament featured an eagle on the 528-yard, par-5 14th hole in Tuesday's second round to go along with 15 birdies and 31 pars while overcoming seven bogeys over 54 holes.

Nebraska's Hannah Kono added an impressive performance of her own with a 210 (-6) to match the best 54-hole score of her collegiate career.  The senior from Enkoping, Sweden, closed the tournament with a 69 (-3) after firing a second-round 69 (-3) and an even-par opening-round 72 on Tuesday.

Fifth-year Husker Lauren Thiele (Wahoo, Neb.) contributed an even-par 72 Wednesday to match sophomore teammate Ailis Tribolet (Chandler, Ariz.) in a tie for 36th in the 62-player field. Tribolet capped her tournament with a final-round 74 (+2) to match Thiele with a three-round score of 218 (+2).

Junior Olivia Lovegrove (Lincoln, Neb.) rounded out Nebraska's lineup with a 74 (+2) to finish in a tie for 49th at 225 (+9).

Fellow junior Jessica Jolly played solid golf over all three rounds while playing as an individual outside Nebraska's lineup at The Bruzzy. Jolly closed with an even-par 72 Wednesday, after carding rounds of 72 and 70 (-2) on Tuesday.  Her 54-hole score of 214 (-2) was just one stroke off her career best.

Oklahoma claimed the team title with a three-round total of 831 (-33), 10 shots in front of second-place UTSA at 841 (-23). Texas A&M took third at 843 (-21), while the Huskers matched Big Ten counterpart Illinois in a tie for fourth at 852 (-12) in the 11-team field.

Nebraska will be back in action at the Connell Resources Ram Classic at the Ptarmigan Golf Club in Fort Collins, Colo., Sept. 21-22.
