Hannah Kono fired a final-round 68 (-4) to earn a tie for 10th to lead the Nebraska women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Ben Connell Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., on Tuesday.
Kono, a senior from Enkoping, Sweden, finished with a 54-hole total of 214 (-2) on the 6,493-yard, par-72 layout of the Ptarmigan Golf Club. Her performance in Tuesday's final round followed a second-round 71 (-1) and an opening-round 75 (+3) on Monday.
Kono led a trio of Huskers who earned top-25 finishes in a 76-player field.
Fifth-year Husker Lauren Thiele tied for 19th with a three-round score of 217 (+1), including a final-round 74 (+2). The graduate student from Wahoo, Neb., put together a second-round 71 (-1) after an even-par 72 in Monday's first round.
Ailis Tribolet finished with a solid even-par 72 Tuesday to close her tournament in a tie for 24th at 218 (+2). The sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., added an even-par 72 in Monday's second round after an opening-round 74.
Kaleigh Babineaux finished just one shot back of Tribolet at 219 (+3) in a tie for 27th. The sophomore from Austin, Texas, put together an impressive 69 (-3) in Monday's second round and closed with a 74 on Tuesday, after beginning the tournament with a 76.
Jessica Jolly completed Nebraska's five-player lineup in a tie for 31st at 220 (+4). The junior from Rockford, Mich., settled for a 76 on Tuesday, after a strong 71 (-1) in Monday's second round. She also opened with a solid round of 73.
Mackenzie Bream added a solid effort of her own with a three-round total of 222 (+6) while competing as an individual outside Nebraska's lineup. The junior from Phoenix carded a career-best 70 (-2) in Monday's second round, after opening with a 74. She closed her tournament with a 78 on Tuesday.
As a team, Nebraska's sixth-place finish in the 13-team field featured a second-round 282 (-6), before the Huskers closed with an even-par 288 on Tuesday. The Big Red opened with a 294 (+6) to finish the tournament at even-par 864.
UNLV rolled to the tournament title with an 845 (-19), 15 strokes ahead of runner-up Washington at 860 (-4). San Diego State took third at 861 (-3), while Washington State and UC Davis tied for fourth at 863 (-1), just one shot ahead of the Huskers. Nebraska finished 10 shots ahead of seventh-place Cal Poly.
UNLV's Kuree Little claimed medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 204 (-12), including a final-round 66 Tuesday. Washington's Hannah Ounap, Washington State's Sydney Bisgrove and Nevada's Nicole Kolbas tied for second at 210 (-6). Kolbas is a Lincoln native who attended Lincoln Pius X.
Nebraska returns to action at the OU Intercollegiate at the Wichita Country Club in Kansas, Oct. 5-6.
