Nebraska Works Scoreless Draw at Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Nebraska soccer earned a road point on Sunday evening, battling to a 0-0 draw with Kansas State at Buser Family Park.

Nebraska moved to 2-1-3 with the tie, while Kansas State remained unbeaten at 4-0-1. The Big Red produced 12 shots, including six on goal, and nine corner kicks but could not score.

Ella Rudney led the Huskers with six shot attempts, including a missed penalty kick in the second half. Avery Gillahan posted her second consecutive clean sheet at goalie, logging all 90 minutes and saving three Wildcat shots.

Along with Rudney, Nathalie Lewis and Kayma Carpenter recorded a pair of shots, with Lewis narrowly missing a goal in the opening minutes. Carpenter also had a late attempt in the final minutes that was saved.

Both teams attempted seven shots in the first 45 minutes. Nebraska applied pressure early, as Nathalie Lewis recorded a shot on goal in the opening minutes, just squeaking past the net. Kansas State tested the Huskers’ defense in the final minutes, recording four shots in the final five minutes, but could not capitalize.

It was more of the same in the second half, with Nebraska continuing to attack the Wildcat defense. The Huskers finished with eight second-half shots, including Rudney’s missed penalty kick and a ball off the post in the 72^nd minute. The Big Red staved off any attempt at a goal from the Wildcats and held on for the draw.

Nebraska returns to Barbara Hibner Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 10, to host the Indiana Hoosiers to open Big Ten Conference play. The match is set to kick off at 7:05 p.m. (CT) and will air on B1G+.
