Huskers Wrap Up Non-Conference Play Against Omaha, Kansas State

Nebraska soccer continues its 2026 season with a home match against in-state foe Omaha on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 7:05 p.m. (CT) and a road bout at  Kansas State on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m. (CT). 

Thursday's match will stream on B1G+ and on the radio on KRNU 90.3. Sunday's match at Kansas State will be available on ESPN+.

Recapping Last Week

• The Huskers are coming off a pair of home games against ranked opponents, tying then No. 8 Notre Dame 1-1 on Thursday, Aug. 20 before falling 2-0 to No. 18 Alabama on Sunday, Aug. 23.
• Against Notre Dame, Nebraska held a 1-0 lead late into the second half before The Fighting Irish struck with a goal from Ellie Hodsden in the 72nd minute. The Huskers goal came from Nathalie Lewis, who got the home team on the board at the 32-minute mark in the first half.
• Along with Lewis’ two shots on target, Ella Rudney and Jo Sees recorded a shot on goal for the Big Red.
• On Sunday against No. 18 Alabama, Nebraska applied constant pressure to the Crimson Tide defense but could not capitalize for a goal, falling 2-0.
• Nebraska held a commanding advantage in shots (22-5) and corner kicks (10-2) but could not score. Ella Rudney and Nathalie Lewis led the Big Red with four shots apiece, including an unsuccessful penalty kick from Rudney early in the second half.
• Ashley Roni posted a brace for Alabama, recording a goal less than two minutes in the game before adding another score in the 53rd minute. Madi Munguia got the start at goalie for Alabama, notching five saves. 

Quick Notes

• The Huskers’ season-opener win over Louisville to open the season was the first season-opening win over a Power Five team since 2018.
• Nebraska will host 10 regular-season home matches this year, including six home Big Ten contests.
• NU grabbed wins over South Dakota State, Creighton, Iowa State and Colorado during the spring. The Big Red also tied with Kansas.
• Kayma Carpenter, Ella Guyott and Ella Rudney were all named Big Ten Players to Watch before the season.
• Head Coach John Walker is in his 33rd season leading the Huskers. He is joined by assistant coaches Savanah Anderson-Baer (fourth season), Ian Bridge (11th season) and Austen Parker (first season).
• Walker has a 380-209-69 record in his career and has coached all 32 seasons in  Nebraska soccer history.

Inside The Matchup: Omaha

• Thursday’s game between Nebraska and Omaha marks the third all-time matchup between the two schools. The teams split the prior two matchups, the last coming in 2025.
•  Nebraska came away with a 2-1 road victory over Omaha on Aug. 31, 2025. The Huskers moved to 3-0-2 on the season and continued their undefeated streak, while the Mavericks fell to 2-1-2.
• NU claimed the advantage in shots (25-9), shots on goal (10-5) and assists (2-0). The Big Red took 17 shots in the opening half and the Husker defense held Omaha to just four in the period.

Inside the Matchup: Kansas State

• Sunday’s matchup with the Wildcats will be the third meeting between the schools. Kansas State’s program was established in 2016, after the Huskers left the Big 12 for the Big Ten.
• Nebraska is 2-0 against K-State, besting the Wildcats 2-0 last season and 4-0 in 2023.
• In last season’s 2-0 victory, Kayma Carpenter scored two goals within five minutes as the Huskers improved to 5-0-2.
