The No. 45 Nebraska men’s tennis team was swept by No. 31 USC, 4-0, in a top-50 matchup Friday night at the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. The Huskers (9-7) dropped all available sets to the Trojans (11-4) in the Big Ten Conference match.
In doubles play, the Huskers quickly fell behind the Trojans at No. 2 and 3 doubles with Joan Torres Espinosa/Niels Van Der Sijs (NEB) dropping their match first to Connor Church/Pablo Robledo Hoyos (USC), 1-6. On court two, Nikolay Sysoev/Henry Bilicic (NEB) fell to Max Exsted/Nathan Trouve (USC), 2-6 to clinch the doubles point for USC as Nebraska trailed 0-1.
The match between Henry Lamchinniah/Matt Shearer (NEB) and Andrin Casanova/Jack McCarthy (USC) was abandoned at 3-4.
The momentum continued to fall on USC’s side in singles play as the Trojans took three singles matchups in straight sets to take the match. At No. 6 singles, Lamchinniah was the first to step off the singles court, falling on the losing side to Niels Hoffman, 2-6, 2-6. At No. 2 singles, Sysoev who recently became ranked No. 81 in singles fell to Exsted, 1-6, 2-6. Freshman Jeri Lassila dropped his match to Casanova in two sets, 1-6, 3-6, clinching the match for the Trojans as Nebraska fell to the ranked Big Ten foe, 0-4.
The match between Leo Linquet and Trouve was abandoned at 2-6, 5-6. Van Der Sijs' singles match vs. McCarthy was left unfinished at 4-6, 3-3. At No. 5 singles, Espinosa’s match vs. Church was also left abandoned at 6-7, 0-2.
