Huskers In Third After Day One at NCAA Championships

The No. 2 Nebraska rifle team is in third place after shooting a score of 2,354 in the smallbore on the first day of competition for the NCAA Championships.

Senior Emma Rhode shot a mark of 591 in the preliminary round, qualifying her for the finals round, where she placed seventh with a score of 406.3.

“Today was a battle and was filled with excitement from the first to last shot,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “I’m very proud of the way the team worked through the challenges they faced today. It was great to see Emma make the final and have the opportunity to chase after an individual title. While we did not have the day we had hoped for, tomorrow is a new opportunity to go out and perform the way we want against a very talented and close field.”

Rhode’s 591 mark led the team on the first day of competition, closely followed by Katlyn Sullivan and Maddy Moyer, who both shot scores of 589. Carley Seabrooke (585) and Alivia Perkins (574) finished out the field for the Big Red.

Ole Miss sits in first place with a 2,356, followed by TCU in second and NU in third, with both teams shooting scores of 2,354. The tiebreaker was determined by the amount of inner tens shot by each squad. West Virginia (2,353), Kentucky (2,353), Navy (2,346), Georgia Southern (2,338) and Alaska-Fairbanks (2,334) round out the championship field at the halfway mark.

NU will return to competition tomorrow, March 14, for the air rifle portion of NCAA Championships, starting at 8 a.m. (CT) in Columbus, Ohio. Live results can be found here.
