The No. 4 Nebraska rifle team finished out the PRC Championships at the top of the rankings on Sunday along with a school-record aggregate score of 4,758, breaking NU’s previous record of 4,749 shot on Oct. 25. The Huskers earned their first conference championship since 2006, and first as a member of the Patriot Rifle Conference.
No. 4 NU took first place with its score of 4,758. No. 5 Ole Miss edged out No. 3 TCU for second place, as both teams shot 4,745. The tiebreaker was determined by the number of inner tens shot on each team. No. 7 Alaska-Fairbanks (4,719) grabbed fourth, No. 10 UTEP (4,702) grabbed fifth, and No. 13 Air Force (sixth, 4,700) and No. 12 Ohio State (seventh, 4,685) rounded out the conference championship field.
“I’m very proud of the way the team performed this weekend.” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “We’ve been talking about conference championships for a long time and to see the team go out and perform the way they do each day in practice and put a full match together was very exciting! Setting program records on one of the largest stages we shoot on is a huge accomplishment that shows we are building momentum at the right time. This team is truly something special and I’m very excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for them!”
The Big Red also shot a school record in the air rifle with their score of 2,394, a record previously set at TCU on Nov. 1. Katlyn Sullivan led the team in the air rifle, shooting a 599, closely followed by Emma Rhode with her score of 599. Alivia Perkins shot a mark of 598. The preliminary scores from the three shooters were good enough to qualify them for finals. Maddy Moyer just missed out on finals qualification with her score of 598, and Carley Seabrooke rounded out the lineup for NU with a mark of 591.
Rhode led NU in the finals round in fourth place with her score of 208. Perkins took fifth with a mark of 187, and Sullivan followed behind in sixth place with a score of 164.9.
The Huskers will get a weekend off before traveling to Columbus, Ohio to face off against Ohio State in an NCAA-qualifying match on Feb. 21. Stay up to date with Nebraska Rifle by following social media channels (@HuskerRifle) for championship season updates and content.
