The Nebraska women’s tennis team fell to Wichita State, 4-0, in a Friday afternoon dual in Wichita, Kan.
The Huskers (5-2) grabbed one doubles match, dropping the other two and three singles matches.
The dual began at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex with doubles play. Tizana Rossini teamed up with Emma Rizzetto on court one taking on nationally-ranked No. 12 duo Roselli/Wang. On court two, Catherine Gagnon and Katie Spencer faced Kudryavtseva/Chantava, and Maria Taranova and Natalia Trigosso took on Knuettel/Vimuktananda on court three. Taranova and Trigosso hit the ground running, defeating Knuettel/Vimuktananda, 6-1. Wichita State’s Kudrayvtseva/Chantava defeated Gagnon/Spencer, 6-3, and quickly after, Roselli/Wang topped Rossini/Rizzetto, 6-3.
Down 1-0 after doubles play, the Big Red took the court for singles. Chantava grabbed the first singles win of the match over Spencer, winning 6-4, 6-2 on court three. Nationally ranked singles player No. 109 Roselli then took down Rizzetto on court two by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Down 3-0, NU looked like it had a chance to come back, but Gagnon would eventually fall to Kudryavtseva on court four, 7-6, 0-6, 7-5. Court one, five and six were left unfinished as the Shockers grabbed a 4-0 victory over the Huskers.
