The Nebraska women’s tennis team closed out its busy weekend with two victories over North Dakota and Kansas City by scores of 7-0 and 5-0, respectively, on Sunday, Feb. 1 at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. The Big Red did not drop a single match to the Fighting Hawks or the Roos.
The Huskers claimed 10 singles matches and five doubles matches in Sunday’s doubleheader.
Doubles play began in the first dual against North Dakota with juniors Emma Rizzetto and Reya Lee Coe on court one, Katie Spencer and Catherine Gagnon on court two, and Natalia Trigosso and Tiziana Rossini on court three. Spencer and Gagnon swiftly defeated Svaerd/Norberg 6-2, and close behind was Rizzetto and Coe, securing the doubles point for the Big Red by defeating Li/Schulte, 6-3.
With the doubles point secured, the Huskers moved into singles play. Yuzu Miyoshi grabbed the first singles point of the match, topping Svaerd, 6-0, 6-2 on court five. Gagnon followed on court three, defeating Norberg, 6-1, 6-0, and Coe would quickly clinch the victory for the Huskers, as she defeated Simone Cameron on court four by a score of 6-2, 6-1. With the win already secured, singles play continued with Trigosso defeating Emma Roberts, 6-2, 6-0 on court six, and Rizzetto earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Li on court one. Spencer was the last to finish on court two, pushing NU to a 7-0 win with a score of 1-6, 6-1, [10-4].
In the second dual of the day, the Huskers began with doubles play against Kansas City. Rizzetto and Spencer were on court one, Miyoshi and Coe on court two, and Maria Taranova and Trigosso on court three. Rizzetto/Spencer defeated Gati/Chrobak, 6-2, and Miyoshi and Coe quickly followed, defeating Reznik/Bylina, 6-2, to secure the doubles point for the Big Red. Although the point was clinched, doubles play continued, as Taranova and Trigosso topped Xibilia/Marshman, 6-3, to close out doubles play.
With the doubles point secured once again, Nebraska jumped right into singles. Spencer was the first to catch a win on the singles side winning her match vs. Chrobak, 6-1, 6-1. On court six, Miyoshi grabbed another win for the Huskers defeating Marshman, 6-3, 6-1. Securing the sweep and the win for the Huskers was Coe defeating Luciana Braga, 6-2, 6-4. As the games currently going on played out, Taranova added to her win column winning her match on court one vs. Gati, 6-1, 7-5.

NU will travel to Wichita, Kan., for a pair of matches on Feb. 6-7. The Huskers will face Wichita State on Friday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. (CT), and Abilene Christian on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. (CT).
