The Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday that Alex Nitache was named Athlete of the Week and Ty Roderiques was named Freshman of the Week following their performances at Nebraska’s quad meet against Greenville, Simpson and William & Mary on Saturday.

Nitache won the floor exercise title at the quad, marking his first career victory on the event. He scored a career-high 13.85 on the floor. He also recorded a career-high 13.70 on the high bar, finishing second on the event. Nitache has also competed on vault and parallel bars for the Huskers this season. His career high on vault is 14.50, and his career high on parallel bars is 13.90. Nitache will compete in the Winter Cup on Feb. 21 after qualifying through the U.S. Championships last summer. This is his first time receiving the Gymnast of the Week award.

Roderiques has been a consistent competitor for the Huskers, competing in every meet this season. At the quad, he won his first career event title on vault with a career-high score of 14.20. The freshman also competed on rings and scored 12.60. This is his first time receiving a collegiate award.

Both gymnasts trained at GymTek in their hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee. GymTek also trained teammate Nik Tarca.

Nebraska will return to action Saturday, Feb. 28, at No. 1 Oklahoma. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
