After a 4-0 start to the season, the Nebraska men’s tennis team will travel to Lubbock, Texas, to take on Texas Tech (1-1) at the McLeod Tennis Center on Friday, Jan 30 at 3 p.m. (CT). The Huskers will then have a quick turnaround coming back home to face Air Force on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. (CT) at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
Coming off being named Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week, Jeri Lassila continues an undefeated spring season going 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles in Nebraska’s duals vs. Memphis and Drake this last Sunday. He won 30 of 39 games playing at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in both doubles and singles. Senior Leo Linquet posted a ranked win taking down preseason No. 101 Moritz Kudernatsch (Memphis) and helped Nebraska completely switch the momentum down 3-0 to overcome that deficit and defeat Memphis 4-3. Linquet also went 1-1 in doubles with partner Henry Lamchinniah dropping a match to Marcos Castro Fabra/Sam Reeve (Memphis) 3-6 but they bounced back in their second match of the day to dominate Alex Yeager/Arin Menon (Drake) 6-0.
Nebraska is 4-0 in the spring season with a singles record of 18-2 and a doubles record of 6-3.
The match vs. Texas Tech is set to be played outside with live video available, weather permitting. If moved indoors, only live stats will be available.
Texas Tech (1-1)
History: TTU leads the all-time series 18-3 against Nebraska dating back to the first matchup in 1985. The most recent meeting was 2024, head coach Peter Kobelt’s first season as Nebraska’s head coach where the Huskers beat the Red Raiders 4-1.
Texas Tech is hosting Nebraska off a 1-1 start to its season with a win against Southern Miss (5-2) and a loss to Denver (3-4). With inclement weather last weekend, the Red Raiders were set to host Oral Roberts in a doubleheader, but those matches were postponed. Texas Tech went .500 last season with a 12-12 record losing to No. 11 Arizona in the Big 12 Championships. The Red Raiders faced eight ranked teams last season, beating No. 71 BYU while facing a stacked Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech last season did feature the pair of Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak who reached a ranking as high as No. 7 in doubles. Abboud is still part of the Texas Tech roster as a graduate student.
Air Force (1-1)
History: Air Force leads the all-time series 13-5 against Nebraska dating back to the first matchup in 1961. The most recent matchup between the two came in 2008 when the Huskers grabbed a 7-0 win against the Falcons.
Air Force is coming off its first win of the season against Montana State (5-2). The Falcons will travel to Omaha to face Creighton on Friday, Jan. 30, before heading to Lincoln to take on the Huskers. The Falcons are coming off of an 11-12 season, losing to Nevada in the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Championship. One of their notable wins last year came against No. 65 New Mexico, when the Falcons pulled out a 4-3 win for their first win over a ranked opponent since 2013. Head coach of the Falcons, Evan Urbina, is in his third year and is fresh off being named 2025 Mountain West Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year last season.
Home duals will be hosted at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center, where parking and admission are free. Concessions will be available with no outside food or drink allowed.
