Written byZac Arens

The Nebraska men’s tennis team (4-0) had a comeback victory over Memphis and swept Drake in a Sunday doubleheader at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. The Huskers were down 3-0 in the match vs. Memphis before completing the comeback behind four singles wins.

In doubles play, on court two, Henry Lamchinniah/Leo Linquet (NEB) fell short of Sam Reeve/Marcos Castro Fabra (MEM) 3-6, while sticking with Memphis before they ultimately pulled away to take the match.

The doubles pair of Colson Wells/Matt Shearer (NEB) battled against the preseason No. 58 doubles of Maxime Dubouch/Moritz Kudernatsch (MEM) but fell in the match 3-6 securing the doubles point for Memphis.

The match between Nikolay Sysoev/Jeri Lassila (NEB) and Marko Milosavlijevic/Obrad Markovski (MEM) was left unfinished on court three. Nebraska trailed Memphis 1-0 going into singles play.

As singles play began, Memphis continued to ride off its doubles point, taking wins on court five and court one. On court five, Lamchinniah fell to Castro Fabra 4-6, 3-6. On court one, Sysoev dropped his match to Dubouch 3-6, 2-6 to give Memphis a 3-0 lead.

Lassila dominated on court four with a two-set sweep, 6-2, 6-4, to put Nebraska on the board and stay undefeated in singles play so far this spring season.

After those matches were finished, three courts remained with battles going on between all three. Court two, six, and three were all decided by a third set.

Linquet (NEB) not only completed the comeback down one set but completed an upset against preseason No. 101 ranked singles player Moritz Kudernatsch (MEM) 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. Nebraska earned another singles point to get within one point of Memphis. Van der Sijs evened the overall match for the Huskers winning a three-set thriller on court six, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. The Huskers tied the match with the Tigers, 3-3.

The match relied on court three and the last man standing, Colson Wells who found himself in a three-set decider. The redshirt sophomore ultimately stood on top on court three completing the comeback for Nebraska.

In the matchup vs. Drake, Nebraska started off hot, jumping out in front right away in doubles. The Huskers swept the Bulldogs with wins on court two and three from Linquet/Lamchinniah (NEB) and Sysoev/Lassila (NEB) to secure the doubles point for Nebraska.

Nebraska kept this momentum going into singles taking the first sets on four out of the six courts. Lassila was the first to finish, quickly taking his match in two sets (6-0, 6-3) and continued his hot start to his freshman season.

Joan Torres Espinosa battled in his first singles match of the day vs. Adan Tarquino, 7-6 [8-6], 6-2 to give the Huskers one more point closer to a sweep over the Bulldogs. Sysoev completed the win on court one with a back-and-forth battle against Chris Winstead and took the match in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. This clinched the match for Nebraska as they swept the Bulldogs 4-0.
