Huskers Host Memphis, Drake in Sunday Doubleheader

The Nebraska men’s tennis team (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) will host Memphis (3-0) and Drake (0-0) in a Sunday doubleheader at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. (CT) at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. The Huskers are coming off two 7-0 sweeps over the Omaha Mavericks on Jan. 17. 

With NU starting 2-0 on the season, most Huskers are off to undefeated starts in their spring seasons. On the doubles court, in the No. 3 spot, Jeri Lassila and Nikolay Syosev hold a 2-0 record helping Nebraska earn the doubles point in both of their matches vs. Omaha. In singles while alternating at the the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, seniors Nikolay Syosoev and Leo Linquet both started 2-0 in their final spring seasons. Lassila also continued his undefeated weekend going 2-0 in singles and 4-0 overall in his first dual of his collegiate career. 

Overall in the spring, Nebraska starts 12-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles, only dropping one match so far. This will be the Huskers' last doubleheader of the season. 

Memphis (3-0)
History: This is the first match between these two teams.  

Memphis is coming off a three-match win streak with wins over UAB, Tennessee State and Harvard, who was 20-7 in the 2024-25 season. The Tigers are coming off a 16-12 season where they lost in the American Athletic Conference Championship to Rice and fell short of the NCAA Tournament. They reached the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in 12 seasons in the 2023-24 season when they earned their first tournament win since 2021 over No. 27 North Carolina. 

This Memphis team features ranked talent with senior Moritz Kudernatsch, who is the No. 101 preseason ranked singles player and two preseason ranked doubles pairs of No. 58 Moritz Kudernatsch/Maxime Dubouch and No. 86 Sam Reeve/Lasse Rensing. 

Drake (0-0)
History: 30-20 NU leads; In a matchup that dates back to 1955, Nebraska has won the last three matches vs. the Bulldogs. 

This is Drake’s first match of the 2026 spring season. The Bulldogs are coming off a 7-11 2024-25 season where they lost three matches in a row to end the season. They bring a young squad to Nebraska featuring six freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors and just one senior. Their first-year head coach, Justin Stuckey, has amassed 424 wins in his coaching career, featuring 10 conference championships and a team ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation. He comes to Drake after five seasons at Saint Louis University. 

The doubleheader duals will be hosted at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center, where parking and admission are free.
