The Nebraska swimming and diving team began competition at the Hawkeye Invite on Tuesday, Nov. 18, highlighted by relay and team diving performances at the Campus Wellness and Recreation Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
Through the efforts of Gena Jorgenson, Beatrix Tanko, Riley Miklos, and Giulia Marchi, the team shattered the school's record in the 800 freestyle relay. The Big Red notched a 7:04.78 in the event, taking down the previously held 7:07.35. The record-setting performance gave Nebraska a first-place victory.
In the 200 medley relay, Virginia Consiglio, Amelia Riggott, Natalie Dunaway, and Beatrix Tanko led Nebraska with a sixth-place finish in 1:39.81. Additional Husker relay teams posted times of 1:43.20 (Laurin, Zboinski, Zanin, and Marchi) and 1:43.95 (Gogel, Lunn, Kissuk, and Hadford).
Highlighting the opening day of the midseason invite in the diving well was the Big Red team of Abby Baxter, Addy Farman and Kelsey Clairmont, which reached for a first-place finish in the team diving competition. The team of divers garnered 298.30 points in the six-round competition.
The Big Red dive back into action on Wednesday with preliminary rounds beginning at 10 a.m. (CT) and finals slated to start at 5 p.m. The invite can be streamed on Iowa’s YouTube stream and followed along on MeetMobile for live results.
