Nebraska Tops No. 7 UTEP

The No. 1 Nebraska rifle team defeated No. 7 UTEP, 4,717-4,713 on Saturday, Nov. 15 in El Paso, Texas. The Huskers move to 10-0 with the victory.

NU grabbed three of the top five spots overall. Charlie Mick placed first overall, shooting a score of 1,187. Katlyn Sullivan followed in second with a mark of 1,186, with Carley Seabrooke rounding out the top five for the Big Red with her score of 1,185.

“I’m very pleased with how the team performed today,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “While our smallbore number did not reflect the work put into the performances, we came out strong and continued the great work in air rifle showcasing the depth we have in our program. It was fun to watch Charlie shoot today, posting a seven point PR in smallbore and tying her PR in air rifle to lead the way for the match. It was also great to watch Carley and Katlyn continue to have very solid and consistent performances. We’ll get back to the range on Monday and look forward to closing out our fall season at home next weekend!”

In the smallbore, Nebraska took three of the top five spots. Seabrooke led in first place with a score of 591. Mick shot a personal best in the smallbore, placing third with her score of 590, and Sullivan followed in fourth with a mark of 590. Camilla Johannessen (eighth, 579), Grace Corbett (10th, 576) and Hannah Gallagher (11th, 576) rounded out the lineup for NU. Tiebreakers are determined by the number of 10-point shots by each athlete. 

Three Husker shooters placed in the top five in the air rifle. Sullivan took first, shooting a 597 and Mick followed in second, also shooting a score of 597. Seabrooke rounded out the top five with a score of 594. Corbett (seventh, 594), Johannessen (ninth, 590) and Gallagher (10th, 585) finished out the lineup for the Big Red.

The Huskers will return home to Lincoln for their final matches of the fall season against No. 9 Ole Miss and No. 10 Air Force on Saturday, Nov. 22.
