Husker Defense Stifles Boilermakers

The Nebraska soccer team claimed its first conference win with a 1-0 victory over the Purdue Boilermakers on Thursday evening at Barbara Hibner Stadium.

Reagan Raabe scored the lone goal of the game, an 83rd-minute tap into the goal off a cross from Carson Bohonek and a returned goal kick from Ella Rudney.

The Huskers improved to 6-3-5 (1-3-3 Big Ten) while Purdue fell to 5-7-3 (2-4-1 Big Ten).

NU held the advantage in shots, 15-5, and took six shots on goal while the Husker defense did not allow a shot on target by Purdue. The two teams were even at seven corner kicks apiece and the Boilermakers logged six saves.

Raabe, Sadie Waite and Ellie Felt each took three shots for the Big Red. Raabe and Felt both had two on goal. Cece Villa (5-3-5) claimed the win in the net after grabbing her fifth shutout of the season.

In the 36th minute, Raabe took a shot from the top of the box that barely missed the net. Makovicka took a shot off a cross from Raabe that was just wide right, and NU and Purdue went into the break knotted at 0-0.

The Huskers took eight shots, including two on goal in the first half. The Big Red backfield only allowed two shots total and none on goal by the Boilermakers.

Nebraska will remain home for a matchup with the Maryland Terrapins on Sunday, Oct. 12. The game will kick off at 1:05 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+. Sunday’s game will mark the Huskers’ Senior Day and fans can purchase tickets at huskers.com/tickets
