Schutz, Bainbridge Claim Second-Team All-Big Ten Awards at Conference Championships

The Nebraska men’s and women’s cross country teams made their way to East Lansing, Mich. to compete in the Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Friday Oct. 31st. Then men toed the line first and brought home a 15th-place team finish with 468 points. Next out were the women who placed eighth out of 18 competing teams with 235 points. Notably, Berlyn Schutz and Ali Bainbridge both claimed second-team All-Big Ten awards. This marks Bainbridge’s second consecutive All-Big Ten honor. 

 

Leading the men was Denny Chapman with a 91st-place finish and a time of 25:01.1. He was followed by Grant Wasserman who finished 121st in a time of 25:33.0. Next across the line for the Huskers was Jack Witte (129th, 26:06.3) who was immediately followed by Gabe Nash (130th, 26:17.4). Kaleb Sharp rounded out scoring for the Huskers in 138th place with a time of 27:00.3. Oregon won the men’s team competition with 36 points. Michigan State finished second in the Big Ten with 68 team points, and Wisconsin capped the podium with 90 points. 

Berlyn Schutz and Ali Bainbridge both came away with top-20 finishes in the women’s 6k. Berlyn Schutz finished 16th in a time of 20:26.4, followed by Ali Bainbridge in 18th with a time of 20:30.6. Freshman Alexandra Joyce secured a top-50 finish in 48th place in a time of 21:04.6. Jaylee Wingate (83rd, 21:41.2) and Alea Hardie (98th, 21:57.7) rounded out the scoring line up for the Husker women. Oregon won the women’s team title with 18 points. Penn State took second with 78 points and Northwestern finished 3rd with 96 team points.

 

Next Up: The men’s and women’s teams will travel to Stillwater, Okla. on November 14th for NCAA Midwest Regionals.
