The Nebraska soccer team took a season-high 12 shots on goal and 29 total and downed the Maryland Terrapins, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Barbara Hibner Stadium.
NU also dominated on the defensive side, allowing only six shots and one on target. The Huskers spent almost 80% of their time of possession on Maryland’s half of the field. The Big Red had nine corner kicks to zero from the Terps. UMD had 10 saves.
The Huskers improved to 7-3-5 on the season with a 2-3-3 mark in Big Ten competition, while the Terrapins fell to 6-9-0 (2-6-0 Big Ten).
Lauryn Anglim scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the 39th minute of the game and Ella Rudney extended the lead to 2-0 with a score in the bottom of the net, assisted by Reagan Raabe.
Raabe took a game-high five shots with two on target and Jo Sees and Kayma Carpenter added four shots apiece. Raabe had the Huskers’ lone assist of the game. Cece Villa (6-3-5) grabbed the win in goal with her sixth shutout of the season.
NU’s backfield allowed only one shot in the period and none on goal. Raabe and Sees led the Big Red, which took 20 shots in the half, with three shots apiece going into the break.
The Huskers will play their final road games of the season against USC and No. 9 UCLA on Thursday, Oct. 16 and Sunday, Oct. 19, respectively. Both games will be streamed on B1G+.
