Jolly, Bream Earn Top 25 Finishes to Open Season

Jessica Jolly and Brooke Bream both earned top-25 finishes in their debuts in the Nebraska lineup to help the Husker women's golf team to a tie for eighth at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational in Corinth, Texas, Tuesday.

Jolly, a transfer from Illinois State, played three strong rounds in her Big Red debut to tie for 19th with a 54-hole total of 211 (-5).  The sophomore from Rockford, Mich., put up rounds of 70 (-2) and 69 (-3) on Monday before closing with an even-par 72 on the 6,343-yard layout of the Oakmont Country Club. For the tournament, Jolly recorded 12 birdies against just seven bogeys while making 35 pars.

Bream, a fifth-year senior from Phoenix, Ariz., tied for 25th with a career-best three-round total of 212 (-4) that included back-to-back career-best rounds of 70 (-2) on Monday. She closed the tournament with an even-par 72 Tuesday.

Nebraska's top returning golfer from a year ago, Hannah Kono also put up solid scores throughout the tournament on her way to a tie for 30th at 213 (-3). The junior from Enkoping, Sweden, opened with a 69 (-3) before adding a 71 (-1) in Monday's second round. Kono started the final round strong with birdies on two of her first three holes, but she couldn't overcome a trio of bogeys over the final 15 holes on her way to a 73 (+1). She finished the tournament with eight birdies against five bogeys while making par 41 times in 54 holes.

Danica Lundgren put four Huskers under par for the tournament with a three-round total of 214 (-2). The sophomore from Austin, Texas, fired Nebraska's best round of the tournament with a second-round 67 (-5) on Monday after opening with a 74. She closed with a 73 Tuesday to tie for 35th individually.

Ailis Tribolet also closed her first college tournament with a solid round of even-par 72 to contribute to Nebraska's team score on Tuesday. The true freshman from Chandler, Ariz., opened with rounds of 76 and 75 on Monday on her way to a 223 (+7) in 66th among a 72-player field.

Fellow true freshman Kayleigh Babineaux from Austin, Texas, rounded out Nebraska's contingent in a tie for 53rd while playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup. Babineaux matched Tribolet's even-par 72 on Tuesday, after posting a 71 (-1) in Monday's second round. Babineaux opened the tournament with a 76 and finished with a 54-hole total of 219 (+3).

Missouri ran away with the team title with a three-round total of 824 (-40), 16 strokes in front of both Tulsa and the hosts from North Texas, who finished at 840 (-24). Texas Tech and Kansas State tied for fourth at 842 (-22), while Louisville (844) and Texas State (846) completed the seven teams ahead of the Huskers in the team standings. 

Nebraska finished in a tie for eighth with UTSA at 849 (-15), defeating Central Arkansas (860), Middle Tennessee (861), New Mexico State (861) and Tulane (875).

Missouri's Ebba Liljeberg unleashed an amazing 54-hole score of 197 (-19) that included a second-round 61 (-11) on her way to medalist honors. She finished nine shots in front of co-runners-up Bouquet Subsomboon (North Texas) and Yvonne Chamness (Texas State), who finished at 206 (-10).

Nebraska returns to action at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo. (Sept. 22-23).
