Huskers Fall to No. 8 Hawkeyes, 1-0

The Nebraska soccer team was held to a season-low two shots on goal and dropped a 1-0 decision to the No. 8 Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday afternoon at Barbara Hibner Stadium.

With the loss, the Huskers moved to 5-2-5 on the season with a 0-2-3 mark in Big Ten competition. Iowa improved to 8-2-2 (3-1-1 Big Ten).

The Hawkeyes held the advantage in shots (15-10), shots on goal (9-2) and corner kicks (7-6). Today marked the first time this season that NU did not have more corner kick opportunities than its opponent. The Huskers were also called for 11 fouls in the match, while Iowa was called for six.

Ava Makovicka and Ella Rudney each took three shots for the Big Red, but freshmen Mila Brach and Carson Bohonek were responsible for Nebraska’s shots on goal. Cece Villa (4-2-5) took the loss in goal, despite tying her career high with eight saves.

Iowa took the lead with a goal by Millie Greer in the 18th minute of the match. The Hawkeyes had seven shots to NU’s four in the first half.

The Huskers will look to bounce back at Northwestern on Sunday, Oct. 5. The match is set for 1 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+.
