Huskers Claim 2-1 Victory Over In-State Foe

The Nebraska soccer team totaled a season-high 25 shots and downed the Omaha Mavericks, 2-1, on Sunday evening at Caniglia Field in Omaha, Neb.

The Huskers moved to 3-0-2 on the season and continued their undefeated streak, while the Mavericks fell to 2-1-2. 

NU claimed the advantage in shots (25-9), shots on goal (10-5) and assists (2-0). The Big Red took 17 shots in the opening half and the Husker defense held Omaha to just four in the period. 

Ella Rudney opened the scoring with an unassisted goal into the lower left corner at 12:12 in the game. Reese Borer netted her first career goal in the 32nd minute of the game, a shot in the low center of the goal that was assisted by Reagan Raabe and Lauryn Anglim. Rudney posted seven shots, while Raabe took five. 

Cece Villa claimed the win in goal after logging four saves on the evening. 

The Mavericks notched their only goal of the game at 61:48. 

Nebraska will return to Barbara Hibner Stadium for a game against the Oregon State Beavers on Thursday, Sept. 4. The contest is set to start at 7:05 p.m. and will be streamed on B1G+. Fans can purchase tickets at huskers.com/tickets.
