Five Huskers Take Home Titles in Kansas

Manhattan, Kan. - Five Huskers won event titles, as the Nebraska track and field competed at the Ward Haylett Invitational on Friday. 

Four women finished in the top eight of the pole vault, led by Jacelyn Neighbors who took home the win, set a new personal-best and now holds the third-best mark in school history, 4.34m (14-2 ¾). Arina Razina finished fourth and is now eighth-best all time (4.20m, 13-9 ¼), Kylie Clark-Fox placed sixth (3.96m, 12-11 ¾) and Aspen Fears was seventh (3.96m, 12-11 ¾).

The Husker women set a meet record in the 4x100 relay, running 44.98, and Johanna Ilves claimed the 100mH title (13.70) and Grace Parsons finished third (14.85). On the men’s side, Raiko Kahr placed second, running 14.54. In the 100m, Seven Hicks finished runner-up (11.99), and Kahr was sixth (11.07). In the women’s 200m, Hicks finished second (24.48) and Arianna Walker was fifth (25.94). 

Berlyn Schutz ran 2:04.86 in the 800m, the fourth-fastest time in school history, to finish second. Alea Hardie placed sixth (2:14.19), Zoie Ecord was seventh (2:15.53) and Jordan Metzler finished eighth (2:16.56). Gabe Nash was the top male finisher for Nebraska, placing second in 1:49.53. Sam Easley was fourth (1:49.81), Kaleb Sharp placed fifth (1:49.86), Holden Ruse finished sixth (1:50.67) and William McDavid ran 1:51.45 for eighth. 

In the women’s 400m, Rebecca Pecora ran a personal-best 58.29 for the third-place finish, and Abrielle Artley ran 59.40 in the 400mH for fourth. The Huskers saw two runners finish in the top eight of the women’s 1500m, as Ali Bainbridge was fourth (4:26.46) and Cami Merickel was sixth (4:41.12). Grant Wasserman set a PR in the men’s 1500m, running 3:55.25 for third. 

Riley Boonstra won the men’s 3000m steeplechase, running 9:19.34, Max Meyers finished third in the men’s 3000m (8:41.41) and Hannah Godwin ran 10:58.46 for second in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.

Amelia Flynt threw 15.51m (50-10 ¾) in the women’s shot put for fourth, and Gerrit Twitero cleared 1.99m (6-6 ¼) in the men’s high jump for sixth. Flynt added a third-place finish in the discus, throwing 50.07m (164-3). 

Brayden Bergkamp threw 55.96m (183-7) in the men’s javelin for third, and Pecora cleared 1.73m (5-8) in the women’s high jump to finish runner-up. In the long jump, Kavian Kerr won on the men’s side, jumping 7.60m (24-11 ¼), and Velecia Williams finished second (6.14m, 20-1 ¾). 

Up next, the Huskers head to Oregon for the Big Ten Championships, May 16-18.
