Big Red Head West for #43 Washington, #62 Oregon

After two dominant Big Ten victories in Lincoln, the #38 Nebraska men’s tennis team is traveling west this weekend to take on #43 Washington and #62 Oregon.

The Huskers (12-6, 5-3 Big Ten) start in Seattle, facing the Huskies (11-6, 3-4 Big Ten) on Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. CT. On Sunday, April 6, NU goes up against the Ducks (9-10, 1-6 Big Ten) at noon CT.

The No. 38 Huskers have three athletes in the rankings. Senior Mueller is currently ranked No. 69 in the ITA National Rankings, while doubles duo Lars Johann and Anton Shepp hold the No. 39 doubles spot. The top-40 Big Red standing is the best since 2012-13 when the team reached No. 33.

#43 Washington (11-6, 3-4 Big Ten)
History: 2-2 tied; Since their first match in 1985, the Huskers and the Huskies have split their series, each winning two. Most recently, the Huskers lost 4-3 in Seattle in 2011.
UW currently has two Huskies in the rankings, #35 Cesar Bouchelaghem and #104 Dzianis Zharyn. Together, the duo come in at No. 78 in the doubles rankings. Despite their most recent loss at UCLA, UW is also coming off a 4-2 upset road win over #30 USC.

#62 Oregon (9-10, 1-6 Big Ten)
History: 6-2 Oregon leads; Since their first dual in 2009, the Ducks have won six against NU. Most recently, the Big Red fell 4-3 in Eugene, Ore., last season.
Two Ducks are currently in the singles rankings, #99 Vlad Breazu and #110 Lenn Luekemann. UO is on a three-loss streak, going 0-2 in Los Angeles at USC and UCLA, as well as a 4-1 loss to Washington. Before hosting NU on Sunday, Oregon plays Wisconsin on Friday night.

Last weekend, the 4-0 Husker sweep over Indiana notched NU’s fifth conference victory of the season, matching the previous three seasons total Big Ten wins. With another conference victory, the Big Red would accomplish the most in a year for the program since 1940.

On top of its best conference finish yet, NU looks to improve on its 2023-24 spring season record of 17-10. The team reached the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time in program history, and concluded with the most dual wins in a season since 1990. The Big Red finished with a national ranking of No. 49, and Mueller being named First Team All-Big Ten.

Both duals will have live stats and streams available. Updates and content will be shared on social media channels, @HuskerMTennis.
