Huskers Host Penn State on Friday, No. 16 Ohio State on Sunday

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women’s tennis team (10-8, 1-6 Big Ten) welcomes Penn State (5-12, 4-4 Big Ten) on Friday, April 12, at 4 p.m. (CT) before facing No. 16 Ohio State (13-6 Big Ten 6-1) on Sunday, April 14, at 11 a.m. (CT). Stats for both matches will be available on huskers.com, and match updates will be posted on X/Twitter at HuskerWTennis.

Prior to Sunday’s match against the Buckeyes, the Huskers will honor their three seniors: Isabel Adrover Gallego, Maja Pietrowicz and Raphaëlle Lacasse. Additionally, Friday’s match will feature an Apple AirPod giveaway. 

Scouting Penn State

  • Penn State’s Head Coach Alexandra McIntyre is a former WTA player and is currently in her fifth season with the Nittany Lions.

  • Junior Yvonne Zuffova leads the team in singles play with a 10-12 record, while the doubles pair of Karly Friedland and Olivia Dorner has the most doubles wins with a 6-10 record. 

Series History vs. Penn State 

  • Nebraska leads the all-time series against Penn State, 6-4. The most recent matchup between the two teams was last season with PSU topping NU, 4-2.

Scouting Ohio State 

  • The Buckeyes are the second-highest-ranked Big Ten team in the country at No. 16, only behind second-ranked Michigan. 

  • Ohio State has three ranked singles players: No. 15 Irina Cantos Siemers, No. 47 Luciana Perry and No. 113 Sydni Ratliff. The Buckeyes have four doubles teams ranked with Perry and Ratliff at No. 25, Perry and Cantos Siemers at No. 31, Teah Chavez and Cantos Siemers at No. 66, and Audrey Spencer and Perry at No. 80 

  • Ohio State looks to extend their six-match win streak against Iowa on Friday and Nebraska on Sunday 

Series History vs. Ohio State 

  • Ohio State defeated NU last season 4-0 and hold the 8-6 series advantage.

Quick Note

  • Doubles pair Lacasse and Pietrowicz are ranked No. 75 after defeating Purdue at the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo are 9-5 on the season and are 5-2 against Big Ten opponents.  

Numbers to Watch

  • Freshman Maria Taranova leads the team with a 21-6 singles mark. Her 21 wins are the most for a freshman since Patricia Veresova in the 2009-10 season.

  • Isabel Adrover Gallego is 59-41 in doubles play with partner Lucy Loy, who just reached, who has just surpassed 30 doubles wins as a Husker. The pair is 10-4 on the season and 8-2 in the spring. 

  • Canadian Lacasse is currently 39-16 this season, just one win away from her 40th doubles win as a Husker.
