Husker Comeback Falls Short Against Maryland

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 75 Nebraska women’s tennis team battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match 3-3, but fell to the No. 49 Maryland Terrapins by a score of 4-3 on Friday. 

The Huskers earned the first win of doubles play on Court 3, as Isabel Adrover Gallego and Lucy Loy held Hung and Fedoroev scoreless and grabbed the 6-0 victory. On Court 2, No. 47 Ana Zamburek and Anfisa Danilchenko dropped their match 1-6. Court 1 was the deciding match as Raphaëlle Lacasse and Maja Pietrowicz battled but fell to Maryland, 6-3, and the Terrapins took the 1-0 lead. 

The match then moved to singles, and Maryland stretched its lead to 2-0 as Adrover Gallego fell against Kalista Liu 4-6, 3-6 on Court 3. Pietrowicz then got the Huskers on the board as she earned her 20th singles win of the season and 10th straight victory, defeating Maria Budin on Court 4 (3-6, 6-2, 6-3). On Court 6, Maria Taranova lost 6-2, 3-6, 3-6 to Francesca Feodorov, but Lacasse rallied back for NU, as she forced a tiebreak in the first set and went on to defeat Mirana by a score of 7-6 (6), 7-5. Zamburek rallied on Court 5 with a third set win at 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, leaving the Huskers level at 3-3 with the Terrapins. Court 2 was the deciding match for the teams as Danilchenko battled No. 77 Selma Cadar. Cadar grabbed the first set with a 7-6 (6-4) tiebreaker, but Danilchenko battled back to take the second set. She ultimately fell 6-7 (4), 6-2, 1-6, to Cadar, and the Terrapins won 4-3.
