Minneapolis, Minn. - Behind two tiebreak victories, the Nebraska women’s tennis team (10-6, 1-4 Big Ten) grabbed its first conference win and snapped NU’s five-match losing streak, topping Minnesota (9-7, 2-2 Big Ten), 4-3.
The match against the Gophers started with doubles play. Clinching the first point for the Huskers were Raphaëlle Lacasse and Maja Pietrowicz on Court One as they defeated Anali Kocevar and Emma Belluomini, 6-3. On Court Three, Lucy Loy and Isabel Adrover Gallego defeated Aiva Schmitz and Sofia Pizzoni, 6-3 to gain the doubles point. On Court Two, No. 75. Ana Zamburek and Anfisa Danilchenko match was abandoned at 3-5.
With the 1-0 Husker lead, Pietrowicz battled Emma Belluomini, but fell on Court Four, 6-2, 6-2, to even the match at one all. On Court One, Lacasse extended the Husker lead back to 2-1, as she took the match in straight sets at 6-0, 7-6 (3) over Mia Liepert. The Huskers then recorded two-straight victories as Zamburek defeated Sofia Pinton on Court Five 6-3, 6-4, and junior Jillian Roa topped the Gophers’ Sofia Pizzoni 6-1,7-6 (1) to clinch the victory for NU. With the win, Roa continued her unbeaten streak and improved to 3-0 on the season. Former Gopher and current Husker Danilchenko was defeated by sophomore Anali Kocevar 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 on Court Two to give Minnesota their third point, but the Huskers topped Minnesota, 4-3.
