Lincoln, Neb. - Several players mount comebacks in singles play to help the Nebraska women’s tennis team defeat the Mavericks and secure the seventh-straight sweep on Sunday.
Starting with doubles play, Isa Adrover Gallego and Lucy Loy finished first with a win over Zoe Adkins and Paula Arcarons (6-1) on Court Two. To win the doubles point, Jillian Roa and Maria Taranova defeated Keegan VanPelt and Colby Kelley 6-2 on Court Three. The match on Court One was left unfinished, with Raphёlle Lacasse and Maja Petrowicz leading 5-4.
With the Huskers up 1-0, Loy added another point with a singles victory over Summer Shannon, 6-1, 6-1 on Court Five. Taranova followed with a win on Court Four, 6-1, 6-0 over VanPelt. Petrowicz took the deciding point for NU in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0 over Paula Arcarons (Court Two). Adrover Gallego notched another win on Court One against Zoe Adkins, 6-3, 6-4. Nebraska remains undefeated on Court One on the season. After dropping her first set, Ana Zamburek battled back with a win in both the second and third on Court Three (4-6, 6-3, 4-10). To round out the sweep for the Huskers, Roa notched victories in the second and third set to defeat Lillian Tiemeyer 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 on Court Six. The win marks the seventh-straight victory for the Huskers and their sixth-straight sweep.
