Big Red Back Home for Doubleheader

The Nebraska men’s tennis team returns to the Dillon Tennis Center for its first home matches in over a month, with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30. The #65 Huskers (10-7, 0-2 Big Ten) will face Wisconsin (1-14, 0-2 Big Ten) at noon (CT), and Illinois State (13-10, 2-0 Missouri Valley) at 6 p.m. (CT). NU is seeking its first conference win of the season, and to add two more wins to its 7-1 home record. Parking and admission are free, and live stats will be available, as well as updates via Twitter/X @HuskerMTennis.

Scouting Wisconsin (1-14, 0-2 Big Ten)/Series History:
- The Badgers have gone 1-14 to start the 2023-24 season, with their most recent loss to #18 Michigan State, 0-7.
- Wisconsin ended last season 11-11 and ranked No. 63 nationally.
- As of March 19, doubles duo Mihailo Popovic and Michael Minasyan were ranked as No. 72 nationally by ITA, with a 2-1 record.
- Head Coach Danny Westerman is in his ninth season with the Badgers and holds an 8-year record of 92-82 as head coach at Wisconsin.
- Series History: 7-14 UW; Since their first matchup in 1983, the Big Red have gone 7-14 against the Badgers.

Scouting Illinois State (13-10, 2-0 Missouri Valley)/Series History:
- The Redbirds have gone 13-10 to start the 2023-24 season, with their most recent win over Drake, 4-3.
- Illinois State ended last season 10-14 and unranked.
- As of March 19, no Redbirds were nationally ranked by ITA.
- Head Coach Mark Klysner is in his 11th season in the role with the Redbirds. In his time at Illinois State, Klysner has coached two Summit League Players of the Year and surpassed 100 career wins.
- Series History: 4-3 NU; Since their first matchup in 1977, the Big Red have gone 4-3 against the Redbirds.

The Huskers opened Big Ten conference play last weekend against #18 Michigan State and #43 Michigan. Calvin Mueller improved to 6-1 at No. 2 singles, putting up two straight-set wins over ranked opponents. Against #18 Michigan State, Mueller defeated #34 Ronald Hohmann, 6-3, 6-2. At #43 Michigan, Mueller defeated #125 Jacob Bickersteth, 6-4, 7-5, giving the junior a 2-0 start to Big Ten singles. NU has a 10-7 (0-2 Big Ten) record so far on the 2023-24 season, coming off a 2-5 loss to #43 Michigan on March 24.

On March 26, Nebraska was ranked by ITA at No. 65, with a 10-7 record. As of March 19, doubles duo Anton Shepp and Nic Wiedenhorn were ranked at No. 79 with their 11-9 record and upset win over Oregon’s then ranked #31 Burton and Vandecasteele. The Huskers also started the spring season with two-straight Big Ten honors. Shepp was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 17 and Calvin Mueller on Jan. 24. Both Shepp and Mueller were recognized for their perfect 4-0 weeks and straight-set victories.
