Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women’s tennis team (8-1, 0-0 Big Ten) earned its fifth-straight sweep with the 7-0 victory over Drake (3-6, 0-0 Missouri Valley) at the Dillon Tennis Center on Saturday.
Due to Drake only having five athletes competing, the Huskers started with a win on Court Three in doubles play. Isabel Adrover Gallego and Lucy Loy then earned a 6-0 win over Darinka Stepan and Mille Haagensen on Court Two to seal the doubles point. The match on Court One was abandoned with Raphaëlle Lacasse and Maja Pietrowicz winning 4-1.
NU then earned a second point due to a forfeit on Court 6 for Loy, and the Huskers took the first set on the remaining five courts. Ana Zamburek got the first singles point for the Huskers with a win in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) over Stepan on Court Four. To clinch the winning point for Nebraska, Lacasse took down Ines Stephani on Court One, 6-4, 6-1. Maria Taranova wrapped up another victory for NU on Court 5, winning 6-0, 6-2. Adrover Gallego then won in straight sets against Mille Haagensen on Court Two, 6-2, 6-1. Rounding out the sweep was Pietrowicz with another win in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 on Court Three.
"It was a great match for us. I’m super proud and pleased how we came out in doubles with energy and playing our style of play," Head Coach German Dalmagro said. "The same energy was carried out for singles and I was very pleased with how we executed our game across all courts. We stayed consistent and played great tennis down the stretch. Tomorrow we have another opportunity to compete again and I’m excited to see how we come out and compete."
Up next, the Huskers will host Omaha on Sunday, March 3 at 12 p.m. (CT). The match will be streamed on Playsight, and live stats will be posted on huskers.com. Additionally, the Nebraska men’s and women’s tennis teams will host a USTA Nebraska Campus Kids’ Day on Sunday after the conclusion of the women’s match against the Mavericks.
