Huskers Back Home to Host Texas Tech, Tulsa

The newly ranked No. 59 Nebraska men’s tennis team (6-4, 0-0 Big Ten) returns home to the Dillon Tennis Center to host Texas Tech (5-4, 0-0 Big 12) and No. 61 Tulsa (3-5, 0-0 American) this weekend. NU will take on the Red Raiders on Friday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. (CT) and the Golden Hurricane on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. (CT). Scouting Texas Tech (5-4, 0-0 Big 12)/Series History:
- The Red Raiders have gone 5-4 to start the 2023-24 season, with their most recent loss to UT-Arlington.
- TTU ended the 2022-23 season ranked No. 33, with a 14-11 record.
- Current ranked Red Raiders include No. 85 Olle Wallin, No. 91 Reed Collier, and doubles duo No. 39 Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak.
- Head Coach Michael Breler is in his fifth season in the role, after helping lead TTU to two-consecutive NCAA team championship appearances as assistant coach.
- Series History: 2-18 TTU; Since the teams’ first matchup in 1985, NU has gone 2-18 against Texas Tech.

Scouting No. 61 Tulsa (3-5, 0-0 American)/Series History:
- The Golden Hurricane have gone 3-5 to start the 2023-24 season, with a match against Texas Tech prior to the NU/TU matchup on Sunday morning.
- TU ended the 2023-23 season ranked No. 54, with an 11-13 record.
- Tulsa’s doubles duo Pierce Rollins and Timothy Carlsson Seger were recently ranked No. 55.
- Head Coach Vince Westbrook is in his 33rd season as head men’s tennis coach at TU. Westbrook has led the Golden Hurricane to 19 NCAA tournament appearances.
- Series History: 8-13 TU; Since the teams’ first matchup in 1954, NU has gone 8-13 against Tulsa.

Nebraska was recently ranked by ITA, at  No. 59 with its 6-4 record. The Huskers also started the spring season with two-straight Big Ten honors. Shepp was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 17 and Calvin Mueller on Jan. 24. Both Shepp and Mueller were recognized for their perfect 4-0 weeks and straight-set victories.

NU has a 6-4 record so far on the 2023-24 season, the best start for the team since 2019. The Big Red are coming off a close 3-4 loss against Oregon, where No. 1 doubles Shepp and Wiedenhorn upset No. 31 Matthew Burton and Quinn Vandecasteele, 6-2.
