Huskers Travel to No. 24 Baylor Saturday

The Nebraska men’s tennis team (5-1, 0-0 Big Ten) is headed to Waco, Texas, to take on Baylor this Saturday, Feb. 3. The dual will take place at Baylor’s Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center at 6 p.m. (CT). Scouting Baylor (4-1, 0-0 Big 12)/Series History:
- The Bears have started the season with a 4-1 mark. BU is ranked #24 in the Jan. 31 ITA Team Rankings.
- BU was 17-16 on the 2022-23 season, going 2-3 in Big 12 conference play.
- BU head coach Michael Woodson is in his eighth season with the Bears. Last season, Woodson led the Bears to its 25th-consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
- Series History: 3-25 BU; Since their first matchup in 1990, the Big Red has gone 3-25 against BU, with its last win against the Bears in 1996 at Baylor.

NU has a 5-1 record so far on the 2023-24 season, the best start for the team since 2018. The Big Red most recently took on Notre Dame and No. 21 Alabama in the Kentucky region ITA Kickoff Weekend. NU took its first and only loss of the season from No. 21 Alabama, 1-4. Nebraska’s point came from Court Two, where Anton Shepp upset #51 Enzo Aguiard, 7-5, 6-2. In the consolation dual, the Big Red defeated Notre Dame 4-2.

The Huskers started the spring season with two-straight Big Ten honors. Anton Shepp was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 17, and Calvin Mueller on Jan. 24. Both Shepp and Mueller were recognized for their perfect 4-0 weeks and straight-set victories.

Senior Shunya Maruyama has had his best start to spring play with the Huskers, as he is 6-0 on the 2023-24 season. Mueller has also had his best career start in doubles play, going 5-1 in the No. 3 slot.
