Huskers Finish Fall Season with Split Match

The No. 7 Nebraska Rifle team placed second in its second three-team match of the weekend Sunday at Akron. The Huskers took down No. 14 Akron, 4,710-4,707, and fell to No. 12 Navy, 4,717-4,710. Sunday’s match was NU’s final competition of the fall portion of the season.

Nebraska took two of the top five overall spots. Junior Emma Rhode placed first with an aggregate score of 1,189, and Camilla Johannessen took fourth with a score of 1,180.

“Overall it was a decent weekend,” said Coach Richard Clark. “We were able to replace two of our NCAA qualifying scores and improve our ranking for championships in the spring. We continued to see lots of great things from numerous individuals. It was exciting to watch Emma and Maddy fire 590s yet again in smallbore, helping lead the way for the team and match. Camilla was also very fun to watch in both guns today, shooting a new smallbore PR and a season high in air. As we close out the fall, I think we’re in a good spot, but still have plenty of room to grow between now and the start of our spring season. To be where we want come March, we have to rise to the occasion as a team. With each passing week we are continuing to grow and adapt to that challenge.”

In the air rifle, the Huskers took three of the top five spots. Rhode finished second with a score of 596, and Johannessen followed in third place with a season-high score of 595. Freshman Alivia Perkins placed fifth with a mark of 593. Maddy Moyer (13th, 588), and Grace Corbett (15th, 583), finished out the lineup for the Big Red.

NU placed two shooters in the top five in the smallbore. Rhode earned first place with a score of 593, and Moyer followed in second place with a score of 590. Johannessen (ninth) earned a personal-best with her score of 585. Perkins (16th, 570) and Corbett (18th, 563) rounded out the lineup for Nebraska.

Following today’s match, the Huskers get a break before returning to competition on Saturday, January 18 for the Withrow Invitational in Murray, Ky. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m. (central).
