Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women’s team (2-0) swept DePaul 7-0 in NU's home opener on Friday evening at the Dillon Tennis Center.
In doubles play, seniors Raphaëlle Lacasse and Isabel Adrover Gallego won 6-2 against Blue Demon’s Emily Casati and Yuliya Kizelbasheva on Court One. Juniors Ana Zamburek and Anfisa Danilchenko battled but ultimately fell to Greta Carbone and Hannah Smith on Court Two, 6-3. Maja Pietrowicz and Lucy Loy clinched the doubles point with their 6-2 victory on Court Three over DePaul’s Eleanor Nobbs and Sasha Stula.
With the 1-0 lead, action continued with singles play. On Court 5, Zamburek defeated Greta Carbone in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Up next, Pietrowicz defeated Eleanor Nobbs 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Maria Taranova then clinched the overall win against Yuliya Kizelbasheva, 6-3, 6-2. On Court 1, after dropping the first set, Adrover Gallego came back 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 [10-7] to defeat Sasha Stula. On Court 2, Danilchenko defeated Smith 6-4, 4-6 [10-7] on Court 2 before Loy grabbed the sweep on Court 6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4).
“We’ve know DePaul is a good team and they play with good energy, and they fight hard,” Head Coach German Dalmagro said. “We rose to the occasion and played hard and super well on courts one to six. We’re very proud of execution, and we’ve been learning about how to win without playing our best. Super proud of the team to win at home and in front of our home fans. On Sunday, it’s another tough one, but I think we’ll be ready to battle.”
