Jorgenson Clocks School Record on Day Two of Big Ten Championships

Nebraska swimming and diving completed the second day of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday in West Lafayette, Ind., highlighted by a school record and three finals appearances. 

Gena Jorgenson highlighted the day, finishing the 500 freestyle in a school-record time of 4:41.19 in the B final to place 10th overall. The sophomore from Aberdeen, S.D. now holds five school records, including the 1000 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, long-course 800 freestyle and long-course 1500 freestyle. Caterina Bisiacchi notched a 28th-place finish and a career-best in the 500 freestyle prelims with a time of 4:49.52. 

Sarah Barton qualified for the C final in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.15. Barton logged a time of 2:00.23 in the final for a 21st-place finish in the event. Maia Hall added a 31st-place finish for the Huskers in the 200 IM prelims (2:01.43), setting a career-best time. Sydney McCracken finished 38th with a time of 2:03.21.

Eight Huskers competed in the 50 freestyle prelims. Nebraska’s top finishers included Anna Vlachou placing 34th with a career-best 23.23 and Caitlin Cairns placing 38th with a career-best 23.38. 

In the 400 medley relay, a team of JoJo Randby, Beatrix Tanko, Vlachou and Barton secured seventh with a 3:37.60, the third-fastest time swam in school history.

On the boards, freshman Abby Baxter scored a 257.35 on the one meter to qualify for the consolation final. Baxter finished 12th in the finals competition, upping her score to 263.05. Kelsey Clairmont posted a 26th-place finish for NU in the prelims (231.00). Antonina Harned finished 36th (214.30) and Frankie Webb placed 41st (209.05).

After day two of competition, the Huskers remain in seventh with a score of 170. Competition will resume tomorrow with prelims at 9 a.m. (CT).
