The Nebraska men's tennis team continues its 2023-24 fall season in Tulsa, Okla., this weekend at the ITA All-American Championships, Sept. 30 - Oct. 8. Four Huskers are set to compete in the tournament: Lars Johann, Leo Linquet, Shunya Maruyama and Anton Shepp.
Johann will enter the tournament coming off a successful last year with the Huskers. Johann finished with a 14-12 singles record, including an 8-6 mark in the spring season. In doubles, Johann went 10-9, including 7-5 in the spring.
Linquet is headed to Tulsa with nine matches this fall season under his belt. Linquet competed at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic with Calvin Mueller, where the doubles duo finished second. Linquet spent the majority of last season in the No. 2 singles spot, where he finished the year with a 7-10 record. In doubles, Linquet posted an 8-7 record and played in the No. 1 doubles spot for the last seven matches going 4-2.
Maruyama enters the All-American tournament after a successful fourth season for the Big Red, going 13-13 in singles, including 8-7 in the spring and 18-11 in doubles, with a 15-7 mark in spring competition. Maruyama was a strong force in doubles, as he finished the season going 6-1 in his last seven doubles matches.
Shepp will be representing the Big Red for the first time in Tulsa, after transferring from UT-Arlington where he spent his previous two seasons. With the Mavericks, Shepp helped lead the team to the 2023 NCAA Tournament and clinched the conference championship win during singles play. Shepp was also a first-team All-WAC in both doubles and singles.
