Mueller, Linquet Finish Second at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

Milwaukee, Wis. - Nebraska men’s tennis players Calvin Mueller and Leo Linquet finished second in doubles play at the ITA Milwaukee Tennis Classic (MTC). The duo also competed in the singles draw, with Mueller tallying two singles wins.

To open tournament play, Mueller and Linquet each played two singles matches Friday, as well as their first doubles match. Mueller defeated Wisconsin’s Gabriel Huber in two sets, 6-1, 7-6 (3). Mueller’s win moved him into the round of 16 where he was outmatched by Toledo in a three set battle, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Linquet fell short in Friday singles play as he lost to Mississippi State, 6-2, 6-3, and Wisconsin after a second set tie-break, 6-3, 7-6 (1). However, when Mueller and Linquet took the doubles court, they found triumph over Toledo, 6-4, moving them into the MTC Doubles Quarterfinals.

On Saturday, Mueller played one singles match, defeated by SMU’s Liam Krall after a second set tie-break, 6-4, 7-6 (3). In consolation, Linquet advanced in singles by opponent withdrawal for an injury. In doubles, Mueller/Linquet took on SMU and Western Michigan and found triumph in their 6-4 and 7-5 victories, respectively, putting the Husker duo in the doubles finals.

To conclude MTC Tournament play, Mueller and Linquet took on MSU in the MTC Doubles title match. Mueller/Linquet took the first and third games, but ultimately fought and fell short, walking away as runner-up. In singles, Linquet once again moved forward due to the opponent withdrawing for an injury. Linquet then faced Wisconsin’s Huber and was outmatched with a final score of 6-3, 6-3. Mueller’s final MTC singles match was against Wisconsin’s Zlatohlavek. Mueller came back after dropping the first set to overtake Zlatohlavek in a third-set match tie-break, winning 6 (3)-7, 7-5, [10,4].
