James Palmer Jr. has enjoyed a strong start for JL Bourg Basket in France. He is averaging 14.8 points 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range. Palmer had 25 points in 27 minutes in a 98-94 loss to Monaco in the last contest. This is his first season in France after playing in Poland and the G League earlier in his career.
Alonzo Verge Jr. is making the most of his first season playing for MKS Dabrowa Gornicza in Poland after playing for the Huskers in 2021-22. He is currently averaging 23.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in the first three games. In his last outing, Verge tallied 27 points, six assists and four boards in a 79-68 loss to Pardubice.
Another professional rookie who is making a solid debut is Kobe Webster, who is playing for Den Bosch in The Netherlands. Webster, who spent two seasons at Nebraska after beginning his career at Western Illinois, shined in his teams 71-68 win over FC Porto in the FIBA Europe Cup this week, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes of work. Webster is currently averaging 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
The most recent member of the 2022 Husker senior class to get a professional contract was Trey McGowens, who was selected in the third round by the Birmingham Squadron in the 2022 NBA G League Draft over the weekend. McGowens was a two-year starter at Nebraska and averaged 9.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in his two years as a Husker. The Squadron is the G League franchise of the New Orleans Pelicans and begins its 2022-23 season on Nov. 6.
