West Lafayette, Ind. – Freshman Emma Prososki scored her first career goal as the Nebraska soccer team earned its fourth tie of the season with a 1-1 finish on Thursday evening.
The Huskers (4-4-4, 2-1-1 Big Ten) shut out their opponent in the first half for the fifth time in the last six games as the Huskers and the Boilermakers entered halftime tied 0-0. After the first 45, NU held the advantage in shots (11-3), shots on goal (4-1) and corners (2-1).
At the start of the second half, Purdue (3-7-1, 0-3-1 Big Ten) threatened to score in the opening minutes but was called offsides, and the teams stayed even until the 73rd minute. Purdue took a 1-0 lead as Gracie Dunaway blocked an attempted clear by Sami Hauk that rolled into the back left corner of the net.
The Boilermakers held the advantage until Prososki recorded the equalizer for her first career goal. In the 75th minute, Prososki gathered the pass from sophomore Haley Peterson and took a shot from the top of the penalty box that found the top left corner of the net. Both teams had opportunities to grab the win, but the back of the net was not found and the game ended, 1-1.
In total, NU outpaced Purdue in shots (10-6) in the second half and 21-9 on the match. Junior Reagan Raabe and sophomore Sarah Weber finished the evening tied for the team-high in shots with six apiece.
Junior Sami Hauk, a two-time Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week last season, made two saves in goal for the Huskers. Nicola Hauk, Lauryn Anglim and Gwen Lane joined Hauk in playing the complete 90 minutes.
Seven of the last eight games between the two teams were decided by one goal or less, and the Huskers continue to hold the all-time lead, 8-5-1.
Up next, NU concludes its three-game road trip as it faces Indiana on Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT) on Big Ten Network+.
