Omaha, Neb. – In its first of two exhibition games, the Nebraska soccer team battled Omaha to a 0-0 draw at Caniglia Field in front of 1,252 fans.
Highlighting the scoreless first 45 minutes was a shot by Eleanor Dale saved by the Mavericks. Nebraska recorded three shots in the first half, but Omaha held the advantage with six of its own and four shots on goal.
The teams remained scoreless in the second half, but the Huskers had a few opportunities to find the back of the net. Sophomore Sarah Weber broke through the Omaha defense and took a shot that was saved by the Maverick goalie in the 46th minute. With less than five minutes to go, Dale headed a pass from Gwen Lane into the right post.
Junior Sami Hauk, a two-time Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week last season, played the entire 90 minutes for the Huskers and collected three saves. Weber led the Huskers with five shots, while sophomore Haley Peterson added three shots of her own.
NU continues exhibition play next week when it returns home to face Tulsa on Friday, starting at 7:05 p.m. (CT). Nebraska's regular-season opener is set for Thursday, Aug. 18 against San Diego State.
