Husker Rifle Team to Take on The Citadel

Lincoln- The Nebraska rifle team is set to take on The Citadel this Saturday, Oct. 16 in Charleston, S.C. The match is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. (central), and fans can follow along with live scoring at https://results.megalink.no/#!/. 

This week, the Huskers (2-0) were ranked fifth nationally in the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) top 20.  NU has wins over No. 13 Ohio State (Sept. 25) and No. 18 UTEP (Oct. 9).

In last Saturday's win over UTEP, the Huskers' team score of 4,695 tied for the third highest mark by the Huskers since the current scoring format began in 2004. 

Heading into this week's match with the Citadel, Head Coach Mindy Miles believes the Huskers can still make improvements, and thinks the Huskers can crack 4,700 points in a match for just the second time in 18 years. 

"I'm looking for them (the team) to push themselves going into this weekend's match. We are very close to breaking a 4,700," Miles said. 

The Bulldogs come in with a 1-2 record, with two losses to Jacksonville and a win against UAB. They are led by a variety of athletes, including Charlotte Welsh, James Hart, Riley Neiders, and Emily Perkins. The Bulldogs have shot an average of 4,510 as a team this season. The Huskers have faced the Bulldogs only one other time, a 4,631-4,554 victory on Sept. 24, 2017. 

Last week, the Huskers swept the top four spots against UTEP with performances from Cecelia Ossi (1,181), Madelynn Erickson (1,177), Elena Flake (1,172) and Mackenzie Strauch (1,148).  The Huskers have shot an average of 4,687 as a team this season. Ossi placed first in the smallbore and set a personal record of 587. She also placed first in the air rifle with a score of 594.

The Huskers will return home for a match against Army West Point next Saturday, Oct. 23, at 8 a.m.
