Graduate Student (2022-23)
Elena Flake competed in the Huskers’ five home matches this season. She averaged a 573.00 in the smallbore, a 585.00 in the air rifle and a 1,158.00 in the aggregate. Flake posted two top-10 overall finishes, along with three top-10 finishes in the smallbore and one in the air rifle.

Senior (2021-22)
Elena Flake competed in 11-of-12 matches during her senior season for the Huskers. She averaged a 573.18 in the smallbore and a 588 in the air rifle and posted an average aggregate score 1,161.8. Her top smallbore score of the season was a 583 against UTEP on Oct. 9, while her top air rifle score was a 592 against Air Force on Nov. 21. She posted five top-five overall finishes on the season, along with four top-five smallbore finishes and five top-five air rifle finishes.

Junior (2020-21)
Elena Flake was a mainstay in the Husker lineup, competing in all 10 matches and was one of three NU athletes to be in the lineup all season. Flake ranked third on the team in both smallbore (577.60) and air rifle (589.50) average. She had nine top-six finishes on the year, including a first-place performance in air rifle at Army with a season-best score of 596. She also turned in a strong performance in NU’s win over Air Force, finshing second in air rifle (595) and fifth in smallbore (579). He best smallbore effort of 2021 came against North Carolina State when she finished second with a season-best score of 585. Flake was selected for the Tom Osborne Citizenship team for her work in the community and captured a Silver Academic Medallion, signifying a GPA of at least 3.50 for the previous two semesters.

Sophomore (2019-20)
Flake had a breakthrough sophomore season competing in every match for the Huskers in both smallbore and air rifle. Flake posted a career-best smallbore score of 590, besting her previous personal best by 13 points. In air rifle, Flake scored 597 against West Virginia which tied the school record. She helped lead the team to a record-breaking season in 2019-20. As a team at the NCAA Qualifiers, the Husker set the school record for highest overall score (4,707) and posted the second-highest air rifle score (2,373). While the team qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2018, the event was canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Flake was rewarded her for efforts on the range earning All-America honors from the NRA and the CRCA. She earned second-team honors in both smallbore and air rifle from the NRA and was named a third-team honoree in combined disciplines from the CRCA. Off the range, Flake earned a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for her leadership and service to the community. 

Freshman (2018-19)
As one of three freshmen in 2018-19, Flake competed for regular match action over the course of the season. Flake appeared five times in each discipline, recording averages of 565.20 in smallbore and 584.00 in air rifle. She fired a season-best score of 577 in smallbore against NC State. Her highest air rifle score of the season (591) led the Huskers at the GARC Championships. 

Before Nebraska
Flake trained for one year at the National Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. under Coach Gregory Shaner. While a member of the National Training Center Shooting Club, Flake was a member of the Junior Air Rifle Precision offhand team that won the 2018 National Championships and set a Junior National Record. She also competed at the National Junior Olympics in 2017 and 2018.

Flake graduated from Oak Harbor High School in Oak Harbor, Wash. She competed for the S^3 shooting club under head coach LCDR (R) Dave Goodman. During her senior year she went undefeated in JROTC state competition and was the National Navy JROTC Precision Air Rifle Champion.

Personal
The daughter of Lance and Wendy Flake, Elena was born June 2, 1999. She has one younger sister, Julia. Flake pursuing a master's degree in political science after earning her bachelor's degree from Nebraska as a criminology and criminal justice major in December 2021. A Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2021, Flake was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten choice and a six-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection. She was also a five-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. In her free time she enjoys reading, writing, playing soccer and hanging out with friends.
