El Paso, Texas – Nebraska swept the top four spots overall, as the Huskers posted a 4,695-4,558 victory over UTEP Saturday afternoon.
The Huskers (2-0) were led by sophomore captain Cecelia Ossi, who placed first overall with a combined score of 1,181. Fellow sophomore Madelynn Erickson placed second with a mark of 1,177, while senior Elena Flake (1,172) and freshman Mackenzie Strauch (1,148) completed the sweep for the Huskers.
"Cecelia had an amazing personal record in smallbore today, something I know she's been working really hard to accomplish," head coach Mindy Miles said of Ossi's performance.
In the smallbore, Ossi placed first with a score of 587, while Erickson (584) and Emily Cheramie (584) placed second and third, respectively. Flake rounded out the scoring with a mark of 583.
Ossi won her second event of the day by placing first in the air rifle with a score of 594 to place a Husker sweep of the podium. Erickson placed second with a 594, while Flake tallied a 589 to place third. Strauch posed a 581 to finish fifth in the event.
"Overall, we had an impressive smallbore day and I am proud of the team. As always, we have a plan moving foward to get ready for the next match," Miles remarked.
