LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska track and field team swept the team titles at the Mark Colligan Memorial on Saturday in front of a crowd of 1,151 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track.
The Huskers won 11 individual titles and produced five all-time top-10 marks in school history. Three of the marks were set by NU's throwers, and the other two came from the Huskers' women's distance runners.
The Husker men won their eighth straight Mark Colligan Memorial title with 178.5 points, topping Oklahoma (146), North Dakota State (122) and Oral Roberts (55.5).
The NU women won the team title for the seventh time in the last eight years with 163.5 points, while Oklahoma (147), North Dakota State (141) and Oral Roberts (59.5) rounded out the team scoring.
Lincoln native Elsa Forsberg won the women's mile with a personal-best time of 4:46.13, the No. 9 time in school history and the top mark in the Big Ten this season. Emma Bresser won the 800 meters in 2:14.06, while Forsberg was the runner-up at 2:14.36.
Judi Jones won the 3,000 meters with a personal-best time of 9:36.19. Her time put her at No. 9 in school history and No. 5 in the Big ten this season. Gabrielle Boucher placed third in 10:18.22.
Alencar Pereira led the Huskers in the men's weight throw with a third-place throw of 66-9 1/4 (20.35m). The Huskers had two all-time top-10 performances in the event on Saturday. James Joycey finished fourth with the No. 6 throw in NU history (66-1, 20.14m), and Burger Lambrechts was fifth with the No. 7 throw in NU history (65-7 1/2, 20.00m). Lambrechts moved to No. 5 all-time in the shot put later in the day with a throw of 62-6 1/2 (19.06m), which helped him finish third in the event and move to No. 5 in the Big Ten this season.
NU's men went 1-2-3 in the 3,000 meters. Jordan De Spong (8:20.23), Ryan Martins (8:26.85) and Jerry Jorgenson (8:42.39) all set personal bests on their way to podium finishes.
Luke Siedhoff and Darius Luff went 1-2 in the men's 60-meter hurdles with Siedhoff winning with a time of 7.90. Luff set a new PR of 8.00 in his second collegiate race.
Jessi Smith won the 600 meters in 1:33.07, while freshman Brent Wetovick won his second race in as many weeks with a victory in the men's 600 meters. His time of 1:18.38 was just .04 off of a top-10 time in school history. Michael Knowles took third in the event at 1:22.62.
George Kusche claimed the 800 meters title with an indoor personal-best time of 1:49.99 in his first individual race of the season.
Spencer Powell took the victory in the men's pole vault for the second week in a row, clearing 16-5 1/2 (5.02m). Kevin Cahoy and Garrison Hughes were second and third at 15-11 3/4 (4.87m) for a 1-2-3 Husker finish.
NU swept the 4x400-meter relays to end the meet. The women (Kayla Hugg, Emily Ellis, Chelsey Jones, Jessi Smith) won with a time of 3:47.51, while the men's team (Givon Washington, Bryce Barrett, Cody Mroczek, Tony Nou) won in 3:10.96.
Darby Thomas was the women's 60 meters runner-up after a new personal-best time of 7.60. Kayla Hugg was also a runner-up, placing second in the 400 meters in 55.19.
Freshman Jamieson Battistella was the women's high jump runner-up with a clearance of 5-7 (1.70m) in her first meet as a Husker. Madi Scholl took third at 5-5 (1.65m). Mayson Conner was the men's runner-up at 6-10 3/4 (2.10m), and Lincoln McPhillips placed third at 6-6 3/4 (2.00m).
Ieva Turke was the runner-up in both horizontal jumps. She took second in the women's long jump with a mark of 19-5 1/4 (5.92m) and was the runner-up in the triple jump after a leap of 41-1 1/2 (12.53m).
Alexander Thompson took runner-up honors in the long jump, leaping 23-8 3/4 (7.23m), while fellow Jamaican freshman Terrol Wilson was third at 23-3 1/2 (7.10m). Wilson also was third in the triple jump at 50-0 1/2 (15.25m).
Mason Hericks was the runner-up in the men's 200 meters with a season-best time of 21.50.
The Huskers are back at home next weekend for the adidas Classic on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 11:30 a.m.
