Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska rifle team will host the nation's sixth-ranked team, Army West Point, at the Nebraska Rifle range on Nov. 9. Match action is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Scouting Army
No. 6 Army West Point comes to Lincoln with a 1-1 record after losing to Ole Miss to open the season and then beating Memphis. Nebraska holds a 24-16 all-time record against the Black Knights dating back to 1999 and looks to add another victory. The shooter to watch for Army West Point is senior Clayton Hanson, who finished fifth in air rifle at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
Last Time Out
The Nebraska rifle team fell short to the fourth-ranked Air Force Falcons on October 27 with a final score of 4,646-4,664. NU fired a team score of 2,286 in smallbore. Elena Flake led the way with 580, with Trinity Gomez following with 571. Samantha Peterson and Emily Cheramie added 568 and 567, respectively. Kinga Aletto (550) rounded out the Huskers. Although not squadded, Mari Butler fired 565.
The Huskers shot well in air rifle, capturing three of the top five places as individuals. NU's air rifle performance was highlighted three score above 590. Elena Flake fired 596, nearly matching her school-record 597 from two weeks ago. Macey Way earned the highest score of her collegiate career to date with 595 and Kinga Aletto, though not squadded, set a new career best with 591. Flake earned second place individually overall. Although not squadded, Mari Butler set a new career best with 588. Elizabeth Lorentz (588), Samantha Peterson (581) and Emily Cheramie (579) rounded out the Husker squadded scores.Nebraska's final team score was 2,360.
