Huskers Shut Out Mavericks in Exhibition

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team controlled from start to finish in its 4-0 exhibition victory over Omaha in front of 1,028 fans at Hibner Stadium on Saturday night.

In the 10th minute, Dakota Chan scored to give NU an early edge that the Huskers wouldn’t relinquish. Nebraska added two more goals in the first half to build a 3-0 advantage at the midway point.

In the 39th minute, Sinclaire Miramontez fired a shot from the middle of the key that found the back of the net. Miramontez, a senior from Lenexa, Kan., was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List earlier this month.

Senior Savanah Uveges scored in the 44th minute with a header off an assist from Ashley Zugay. Uveges took three shots for the game to lead the Husker offense in that category. Seven different Huskers took shots, as NU outshot the Mavericks by a 13-2 margin. The Huskers took six shots on goal, while Omaha only managed one shot on goal.

In the 56th minute, Adriana Maldonado helped extend NU’s lead to 4-0 with a goal off an assist from Brenna Ochoa. Maldonado, a redshirt freshman from Fresno, Calif., played 64 minutes off the bench on Saturday night after redshirting last season.

Senior Aubrei Corder, who ranks in the top five of several NU career goalkeeping records, played the first 75 minutes for the Big Red and collected one save. Freshman Makinzie Short came on for the final 15 minutes of the contest and preserved the shutout.

The Huskers continue exhibition play next week when they visit Arkansas on Thursday, starting at 7 p.m. (CT). Nebraska’s regular-season opener is set for Friday, Aug. 30 at Kansas. Both Arkansas and Kansas qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season.
