SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Nebraska track and field team locked up six more bids to the NCAA Championships on the third and final day of the NCAA West Preliminary Round at Hornet Stadium on Saturday. The Huskers finished with a total of 14 bids to the NCAA Championships.
Burger Lambrechts Jr. finished seventh in the shot put with a PR throw of 63-6 (19.35m), good for No. 6 on the NU top-10 list. He was the first Husker to punch a ticket to the National Championships on Saturday and it is his first time qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Whitney Bridges, Lakayla Harris, Deja Ingram and Quashira McIntosh advanced to Austin, finishing third in their heat to automatically qualify with a season-best time of 44.61. It will be the first appearance of a Nebraska women's 4x100-meter relay squad at the NCAA Championships since 2003.
Mayson Conner soared over 7-1 (2.16m) to finish fifth in the high jump and advance to the NCAA Championships. Conner finished seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this season.
George Kusche qualified for the National Championships in the 1,500 meters with a seventh-place finish in a time of 3:41.49.
A pair of hurdlers earned bids 13 and 14 to the NCAA Championships for Nebraska. Chanel Freeman finished ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.20, good to tie her No. 3 non-wind-aided mark on the NU top-10 list. Luke Siedhoff finished third in his heat to automatically advance and finished sixth overall at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.73. It will be Siedhoff's second time competing at the National Championships, where he placed seventh last year. Freeman will be competing at the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career.
The NCAA Championships will take place from June 5-8 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
