Huskers Edge Navy

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska rifle team earned its third straight victory today after defeating Navy 4,652-4,650.

The Huskers got off to a strong start in smallbore, notching a team score of 2,309 to grab an early lead. Samantha Peterson and Emily Cheramie led the field with scores of 584 and 582, respectively. Rachel Yager (572) and Hannah Virga (571) added consistency to Nebraska’s smallbore effort. Kayla Gadeken rounded out the Huskers with a mark of 562.

NU cooled off in air rifle but held on for the win after recording a team score of 2,343. Samantha Peterson led the squadded Huskers with 590, followed by Elizabeth Lorentz (586) and Emily Cheramie (585). Maddie Korthas (582) and Kinga Aletto (580) completed the squadded effort. Bailey Powell, competing independently, recorded the highest score on either team (593).

Navy assembled a team score of 2,303 in smallbore, led by a pair of 578 scores from Daniel Enger and Michael Zanti. Torrance Kang and Mark Amdahl each contributed a score of 588 to push Navy to an overall air rifle score of 2,347.

The Huskers will compete again on Sunday, Jan. 20 against NC State. The match will serve as Nebraska’s senior day and will begin at 8 a.m. in the Nebraska Rifle Range. Admission is free.
