Huskers Earn 10 Big Ten TV Appearances

Lincoln - The Nebraska women’s basketball team will be featured early and often during Big Ten play this season, with 10 games to be televised as part of the overall conference package announced by the Big Ten Network on Thursday, Sept. 6.

Nebraska’s 10 nationally televised conference games are the most for the Huskers since BTN, CBS and ESPN2 joined forces to televise 12 of the Big Red’s Big Ten contests during the 2014-15 season.

The past two seasons, only three of Nebraska’s regular-season conference games each year have appeared on BTN. The Huskers’ return to being prominently featured on national television can be credited to Nebraska’s return to the NCAA Tournament last season under Coach Amy Williams.

The Big Red produced the nation’s top turnaround with a 14-game improvement in the win column. Williams was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year after leading the Huskers to a 21-11 overall record and a tie for third in the Big Ten regular-season standings with an 11-5 conference mark. Nebraska, which returns its top five scorers from last season, also ranked among the top 25 nationally in average home attendance for the ninth consecutive season, attracting nearly 4,400 fans per game to Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Season tickets for Nebraska women’s basketball are on sale now at Huskers.com or by calling 1-800-8-BIG-RED.

Nebraska’s 18-game Big Ten regular-season schedule in 2018-19 will feature five Husker road games televised by the Big Ten Network, beginning with a New Year’s Eve game at defending Big Ten champion Ohio State. Tip time with the Buckeyes is set for noon (CT) on Dec. 31 in Columbus, Ohio.

During the heart of Big Ten Conference play, the Big Red will become a regular BTN mid-week attraction, with three consecutive Thursday night road games at Purdue (Jan. 31, 7 p.m.), at Michigan (Feb. 7, 6 p.m.) and at Maryland (Feb. 14, 7 p.m.) set to be televised by the network.

Nebraska’s Big Ten regular-season finale at Penn State also will be televised by BTN on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m. (CT).

The Huskers’ outstanding 15-game home schedule got even more exciting with the announcement of the conference television slate, as Nebraska’s Big Ten opener against 2018 NCAA Tournament qualifier Michigan at Pinnacle Bank Arena will be televised by BTN on Friday, Dec. 28 at 6 p.m.

Although Nebraska’s home game against perennial national power Maryland will not be televised on Tuesday, Jan. 8, the Huskers return to BTN for a Sunday showdown with Rutgers on Jan. 13 at 2 p.m.

The highlight of Nebraska’s regular-season TV schedule comes on Sunday, Jan. 20, at Pinnacle Bank Arena, when the Big Red square off with 2018 NCAA Tournament qualifier Minnesota on ESPN2. Tip-off with the Golden Gophers is set for 5 p.m.

It will be Nebraska’s first regular-season television appearance on ESPN2 since facing Maryland in College Park on Feb. 8, 2015. The Huskers have played a pair of NCAA Tournament games on ESPN2 since the 2015 regular-season matchup with the Terps.

Nebraska closes its home regular-season TV appearances with Michigan State on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m., and against Iowa on Monday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be televised by BTN.

In addition to Nebraska’s 10 regular-season conference games scheduled to appear on BTN and ESPN2, each of the first 12 games of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament in Indianapolis return to BTN this season, before ESPN2 televises the Big Ten Championship Game on Sunday, March 10.
