Fullerton, Calif. - Kaylan Jablonski hit three home runs, tying the program record and Big Ten record, to help the Nebraska softball team (19-9) cruise by Cal State Fullerton (12-16), 7-1, in its second game of the day on Saturday.
Kaylan Jablonski led the team at the plate and in the circle. She hit three home runs, becoming the first Husker to do so since Christie McCoy did on April 18, 1998. It also ties the Big Ten record. Jablonski becomes the 13th Big Ten hitter to record three home runs in a single game and the first since 2017. Jablonski also finished with three runs and four RBIs.
In the circle, Jablonski improved to 12-5. She pitched a complete game, giving up one run on 11 hits. She also had one walk and four strikeouts.
Taylor Otte also had a home run for the Huskers. She finished with two hits, one run and three RBIs. Ally Riley also went 2-for-3, with one run.
For Fullerton, Hannah Johnson dropped to 1-4. She pitched 0.2 innings and gave up five runs and three hits, including two homers.
The Huskers got straight to work, scoring five runs in the first. NU scored two after Edwards drew a one-out walk and Jablonski homered to left center. Riley followed with a single and Madi Unzicker drew a walk. Otte then hit another homer to score three more runs.
In the third, Jablonski hit a leadoff homer to extend the Huskers' lead to 6-0.
The Huskers loaded the bases in the sixth. Bree Boruff drew a leadoff walk. She was out at second on the next play, but Madi Unzicker reached first on the fielder's choice. Unzicker then made it to second on an error by the pitcher, while Taylor Otte advanced to first. Sarah Yocom pinch ran for Unzicker. Gina Metzler moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt, but the Titans retired the next batter to get out of the situation.
The Titans cut the lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth. A pair of one-out singles got things started. A fielder's choice got the runner out a second, but put runners on the corners. One single scored a run and another single loaded the bases. A good throw from Alyiva Simmons in right to Bri Cassidy at home kept the runner from crossing the plate. The Huskers retired the next batter to end the inning.
In the top of the seventh, Jablonski hit her record-tying home run to give the Huskers a 7-1 lead.
The Titans made a bit of a comeback effort in the bottom of the inning, hitting a pair of two-out singles, but the Huskers retired the next batter to end the game.
The Huskers conclude the Easton Invitational tomorrow when the team takes on DePaul at noon CT. The game will be available on Huskers.com (radio), as well as FloSoftball/BTNPlus (subscription required).
